More BI Emotional Crap
So back in BI...without access to the data warehouse through an sort of query version or even a freaking model. Say impossible? Okay, well not impossible, but definitely inefficient. To top it off, the 'BI' team in IT only 'load' the data, but aren't really familiar with the reporting tools. Making this work will be interesting. I'm approaching it as a challenge. And part of the challenge is a supervisor who isn't familiar with the Kimball or Inmon and say they can't be that important because he's never heard of them. I see why this project has sat around for the past three years.

Hello World!
Well, the first post on this site and an attempt on blogging. My plan is to update at least once a week, either with information on data or just random thoughts. Ergo the blog.
Notice the url...datageeek...a triple e geek is truly a geek. Not an id ten t error.
Currently on my second week of a new job in the world of business intelligence. I have been working in BI (Business Intelligence) for about 2.5 years, and was actually trying to switch into a more analytical position. So I accepted a position with a company who had a temp position, while interviewing with 2 other companies. On the first day of work the head lady informed me that my skill set fit the organization in a different manner and I would be working with a different group...basically as a report writer. So back to BI it is. No bitterness. Really. I was hired for a different position with a different skill set I didn't have quite the experience for, so I accepted a 15G salary reduction. Now I'm doing the same thing, earning less money. Really no bitterness.
I think I did a bad job of letting that get through the first week, but hopefully I'm over it now. It is a temp job, so 15 weeks more to go. Who knows, maybe I'll get in with the actual data modeling team, they seem friendly and reasonable. My supervisor reminds me of a really really, really horrible professor I had in college. Not working too well.
